Hi -

I'm currently working on a preservation project on my 1843 home in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

I'm wondering what the advantages and/or disadvantages are in registering as a historical home? Other than being old, I'm not aware of anything else that would make it of historic significance.

Thank you,
Rick

I can share my experience. The 1863 built house I own had no historical significance according to the seller, the township, the historical society. It wasn't on anyone's radar, until that is, I researched the deed history, then the pieces came together. Turns out, it was the home of the founder of the glass works factory in my town, among other things.

My point is, sometimes you have to do your own research to validate your home's significance.

If not your desire, give your house a name, have a historic house sign made and you'll feel great pulling into the house every day.
