Doing my first window here, when I have the bed of putty on the interior side of the sash and am setting the glass in place, does the glass get centered in the space or does the bottom edge of the glass rest on the wood of the bottom rail? If not, will the glass stay in place if I set the sash upright while the putty is still soft? Thank you.

I usually place the bottom edge of the glass right on the bottom rail, so the edge of the glass is on the neck of the glazing rabbet. After glazing I always keep the sash upright (with the bottom rail down) so the glass will not shift and distort the soft putty.
