Thanks for doing this, John.

My window restoration company, Double Hung, LLC (www.double-hung.com), is based in Greensboro, NC. We have undertaken projects large and small throughout the Carolinas and Virginia and are marching toward Northern Georgia as we expand. We have successfully completed many "Historic Tax Credit" projects with adherence to the Secretary of the Interior Standards for Historic Rehabilitation.

In addition, we stock a large selection of restoration glass -both reproduction and salvaged - that will faithfully match any original glazing for any restoration project.

We generally limit our efforts to pre-1935 windows and are expert at both restoration and replication of historic sash (and doors).

Uncompromising workmanship, complete customer satisfaction, and having fun undertaking it all, are our guiding principles.

I recently had a query for window work in northern Virginia. Jim Turner reports:

Thanks for the welcome, Jade!

That link isn't working now, but I found a workshop she is teaching next month:
http://www.preservationworks.org/workshop-sched.shtml

My house has 4 units and I am planning to do one apartment at a time as each tenant leaves. I have one vacancy now (7 windows) but will let you know if we hold off on it for now (we are doing new floors and ceilings as well).

Thanks again!

I specialize in window restoration in the Pacific Northwest and work out of Portland, OR. My company is Oculus Fine Carpentry, Inc, and I focus on the restoration of historic windows and doors in pre-1950 structures, both commercial and residential. I use traditional tools and techniques in my work. Many of the calls I receive involve dry rot repair, restoration of inoperable windows and house museum restoration.

You can watch a video of me on the job site (part of an article in The Oregonianís business section) at

mendi.....
you deserve EXTRA kudos for planning to restore your rental units...that's where so many folks take the cheap 'good enough' route...

i checked sally's website address and it appears to be correct...yes, indeed, she is offering a workshop up in windsor i believe--at least windsor is 'up' from where i am...

good luck......

I'll correct it in her message.

Thanks John,

History Wood and Window Restoration is based out of Odell, IL. We can service most areas of the contiguous 48 including shop and field work and have completed numerous National Register Properties and National Historic Landmarks. We are, like many of the others here, purists and provide restoration in strict adherence to DOI/NPS standards. We can handle from just a few to several hundred openings. Our largest recent project was just over 200 openings.

For window restoration in the Rhode Island area:

We are a full service construction company that specializes in old or historic houses. We have a separate "unit" of the company that works on windows, from repairs, on-site tune-ups, to full restoration. We've restored hundreds of windows over the course of the last 10 years.
