Hello to Fellow Sept. '04 Workshoppers
I am wondering if it's possible to find a good home for the many wooden shutters that are original to my 1890 Queen Anne. I think it's been many decades since they were on the house and while it might be nice to keep them in case someone someday wants to reinstall them, they take up lots of storage space. And they're very heavy and covered with lead paint.... but despite that, I'd like to think that somebody somewhere would love to have them! Does anyone know of a clearinghouse or other venue for advertising such things? Thanks for any input you might have.
Best, Kate

Hi Kate:

Sorry to take so long to reply. I don't know anyone who needs shutter right now. Pictures and measurments might help. You can now attach digital pictures as attachments by clicking on "Andd an Attachment" in your reply to this post.

There is a place I know of in Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA. Its called something like the Boston Building Materials Resource Center. I don't know where your shutters are but there is chance someone there might want them. I have also seen ads on craigslist for similar items. You might reach a larger audience there. Good Luck - Old things are beautiful and its always nice to find just the right home for them.

Kate, If you still have those shutters I'd be interested. My house is an 1892 Queen Anne in need of shutters and I'd much rather reuse old ones that have to buy new or recreate them from scratch! I'm in Jamaica Plain, MA, in Hyde Square (not far from the Boston Building Materials Resource Center).

I run a nonprofit preservation organization, so any shutters I don't use will go in the community pool (my garage) for anyone who will reuse them.

Cheers,
Rik

Rik:

I just sent Kate a direct email about your interest in the shutters.

This word, just in from Kate:

Hello John,

Funny, I just revisited your site yesterday for the first time in many
months (I've
been too busy with grad school to keep up!) and was sorry to see that
there
hadn't been any more responses to my post, but glad to see it was still
there.
Thanks for emailing, I will send Rik an email ASAP.

So glad to hear you're continuing to "spread the gospel" about the
beauty of
old windows! You should have a motto like, "preserving the past, one
window
at a time!"

Thanks again.

Best,

Kate
