Looking for a way to guide board, staff, and volunteers in caring for your museum's building and collections? The Conservation Assessment Program (CAP) can help!

The CAP provides a grant for a general conservation assessment of your museum's building, collection, environmental conditions, and site. Typical funding levels are $5,000 to $8,000. Conservation priorities are identified by professional conservators who spend two days on-site and three days writing a report. The report can help your museum develop strategies for improved collections care and provide a tool for long-range planning and fund-raising.

I frequently do building assessments under funding from this excellent program, and highly recommend it. --John Leeke

This is a good program. The CAP grants are non-competitive, first come first served. The assessments acts as the first stepping stone on a path to funding. The assessment reports are used is grant applications to document and justify the needs so the granting agencies know that the needs are identified by professionals and are more responsive in providing funds.
