|
|
Authentic Roof advertises slate look alike roof tiles and praises the quality and durability of these. I purchased their product in 2002 and had it installed. Mechanically the roof tiles did very well and even strong wind storms didn't do any damage. However, the tiles discolored very unevenly and noticeably after about 4 years. After about 7 years the dicoloration reached a point of utter ugliness. When I brough the matter to Authentic Roofs attention they responded first by admitting they had a "supplier problem" ath the time in question. The, however, they gave me quite a bit of a run around with their insurance and up to date the matter is still unresolve. Check the pictures and see if you would consider such a roof to appear desireable. Their advertising and the product performance do not match. If interested, I have more pictures. Any similar experience?

How noticeable is it from the ground?
Almost looks like some of the material used in the manufacture is different on certain tiles.
Are they plastic, or an asphalt product?

I'd worry more about wind driven rain getting under the shingles on top of the eyebrow and rotting out the roof. Real slates can be trimmed to better manage curves and varying radii. Fake slate are a pain in the neck to cut, so they aren't, so they don't fit as well as real slate.

Have you tried contacting the shingle manufacturer directly or the roofer? Just from reading their warranty info it definitely should be covered.

"Non-uniform color change as a result of equal exposure to sunlight is covered under this warranty"
Maybe a letter from a laywer would put a fire under their butt :)
