I managed to score one of these old stock drivers...made right here in my home state.
I recently reglazed a storm window. Its probably 80-90 years old, so nice old pine. I could not get the driver to push the point in more than 30% of the way. The rabbets are really narrow on these sashes and this created problems when I was glazing. Also it sets the point up off the glass surface. I have read conflicting arguments about whether the points or the putty should actually be holding the glass in. I will tell you that the original points are right on the face of the glass (which makes them difficult to remove).
This may be going back to the auction site and I will revert back to manual points with the tabs that require me to snip back for each one.
Love to hear any tips/feedback from other Fletcher users.
Thanks
