The Maine Historic Preservation Commission in 2006 allotted eight competitive, matching grants, ranging in size from $2,000 to $10,000.

The purpose of the Historic Barn Preservation Grant is to enable private barn owners to repair and stabilize the condition of their barns, according to the commission's Web site, located at http://www.maine.gov/mhpc/grants/historic_barn_preservation_grants.html
