In our old house renovation it was discovered that the "last" salvaged floor before rehab work on the structure had a geometric pattern painted on it. Not all the paint was in good condition but a few of the floor boards were. We would like to reuse some in an area to showcase what had existed in the original house. So we are wondering what can be used to clean the old paint and what can be used to cover the original paint to protect it from foot traffic if relaid in an area of about 4 x 4 feet.

Trying to find a wall to add a small sample just did not work as we continue to bring the original character of the rooms back to life.

I have attached a photo if of any help, just not sure if this is the best pieces. Will have to hunt thru the stack of floor boards if something better exists.
