Preserve America Grants

Applications for the Preserve America matching-grant program are now
available. Grants are offered to Preserve America Communities to support
preservation efforts through heritage tourism, education, and historic
preservation planning. Application deadline: February 14, 2007.

On March 9, 2006 Honorary
Chair of Preserve America, announced $3.5 million in Preserve America
Grants to support 45 projects in 28 states. Applications are now available
for a second round of funding with $1.5 million available. More
information is online. Deadline is May 15. At the event on Capitol Hill,
Mrs. Bush also recognized the first five Preserve America Community
Neighborhood designations: The District, Nashville, TN; Bell Court and
Gratz Park, Lexington, KY; Historic Portland, Louisville, KY; and
Irvington, Indianapolis, IN. The Hill event was hosted by the
Congressional Historic Preservation Caucus co-chaired by Rep. Michael
Turner of Ohio and Rep. Brad Miller of North Carolina. Secretary of the
Interior Gale Norton and Chairman of the Advisory Council on Historic
Preservation and Co-Chair of the Preserve America Steering Committee John
L. Nau, III joined Mrs. Bush at the event. The Department of the Interior
and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation are two of the federal
agencies that partner with the White House on Preserve America.
