In construction of storm windows does mixing wood species make a difference? I have some pieces of doug fir, cedar and old growth pine or hemlock, not sure, from rehab of 170 year old house. These are various size and thickness that can be milled to size as needed. The old floor joists taken from house rehab have extremely tight growth rings and seems a shame not to use.

Mixing should be OK. Put the tightest rings and heart wood at the bottom rail and bottom of the stiles.
